Vernonia sp.
Monarchs are large butterflies, yet they forage on the minuscule florets of a native daisy called cup plant. The large inflorescence provides a landing pad (plant: cup plant, "Silphium perfoliatum" in the daisy family Asteraceae).
One of my favourite flowers, once pollinated becomes one of my favourite fruits! The spring-flowering pawpaw, "Asimina triloba", is Ontario's sole member of the Annonaceae, a primarily tropical family comprised of the absolutely most delicious fruits found on Earth!
